ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court has sent four suspects, including Usman Mirza, to court for allegedly abusing and beating a couple.
Mirza and three colleagues, known as Farhan, Hafiz Atta, and Idris, were arraigned in court on Tuesday after their graduation.
Chief Justice Mian Azhar Iqbal heard the case and acquitted them. The suspects will remain in jail until July 30.
Advocate Hasan Javaid appeared on behalf of the couple.
The perpetrators were arrested on July 7, following the release of a video of the incident, which took place months ago.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has also seen a case related to sexual harassment and coercion in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman to inquire about the incident.
The premier has instructed the IGP to provide exemplary punishment to the suspects in the incident.
Earlier, a man named Usman Mirza was arrested by Islamabad police and charged with raping, beating and abusing a couple after violent videos surfaced on social media.
According to police, Mirza forced the woman to undress and confiscate her video two months ago, which she had been using to seduce him.
Mirza's co-workers, Atta-ur-Rehman, Mudaris Butt and Farhan, were also arrested.
A video of the violence against a girl and a boy has spread on social media. Islamabad police used all sources immediately to arrest Usman Mirza within a few hours, registering the FIR and taking legal action, ”Islamabad police said on Twitter.
According to the FIR registered at the Gorla police station in the minor inspector's complaint, the incident took place in section E-11/2.
The suspects are listed under Section 506 (criminal threats), Section 341 (not available), and Section 509 (sexual harassment) of Pakistan Penal Code.
